The recent updates on restrictions during lockdown has changed the dynamics on what people can do and the areas in public which are now accessible.
Our previous article from last month which looks at just how much of an impact SIA security worker roles have had in since the beginning of lockdown. Especially for those individuals who have continuously worked through the duration of this pandemic. Saturday 4th July has been announced as the official day where people are able to go into food outlets as well as bars that will reopen for the first time since lockdown.
The changes being made to outdoor interactions as well as restrictions continuing throughout shopping centres and supermarkets has paved way for job openings for SIA security workers. Whether it is your first job, or you have been in the industry for a while, the roles that security guards will have after lockdown is still crucial to help keep operations running smoothly across various retail, health and food outlets.
As stated in our previous article, SIA security guards have been given the status of key worker since the start of this lockdown. Many employees in health and retail outlets remaining in self-isolation caused a strain on controlling queues and members of the public. Security guards not only played the role of preventing risk and harm to the public, but they contributed in maintaining consensus and order within these establishments.
Changes taking place
Announcements of European cities opening their borders to foreign visitors has meant people are now booking last minute getaways. Pubs announcing opening times have meant people are now planning group gatherings and meet ups. With this will come thorough security checks where people will be questioned and potentially tested for any health risks. People are forgetting that covid-19 has not been eradicated completely, we are all at risk of carrying and contracting the virus. For many SIA security workers, now and the rest of the year poses as a crucial time to acknowledge the work and effort many individuals have produced to ensure members of the public are safe and free from anything that could jeopardise their health. We have clapped for NHS workers these past couple of months, but we should also applaud SIA security workers who have also worked long hours to ensure older and vulnerable people have been able to get their shopping done. We should applaud SIA security workers who have also assisted employees at hospitals, banks and supermarkets to prevent anti-social behaviour, vandalism and harassment.
Going back to the question of whether we need more SIA security workers now, yes we do! We might be returning to normality slowly but there are always risks. To prevent a second wave of covid-19 taking place later this year, we still need people to remind us that everything we do outdoors poses a risk. We still need regular checks and restrictions to take place to minimise the spread of covid-19.
