Last week, we touched upon lessons and reflections gathered from the past 2 months whilst isolated at home during lockdown. Restrictions easing off this month has meant people are now able to resume back to their normal daily routines with a few changes. However, there are many of us that are still cautious or apprehensive to set foot outside with cases still being confirmed and death rates remaining high. Hearing the number of cases of covid-19 has deterred many people to go outdoors, with many remaining in isolation for a period which is extended past lockdown. We thought we could share some tips with those who are planning to make the first non-essential trip outside or seeing someone outside of their household.
Go out at off-peak times
For those who are set to be meeting people or going out this month, fear not. The easiest way to ease yourself back into the public realm is to try going outdoors during times of the day where there are less people or non-essential shops have less crowds. If you are going to the park or recreational spaces, try go early morning or just before sunset where the number of people in these areas are normally less than normal. Since the eases made this month during lockdown, freedom of movement will also mean less people will be out all the time. Try and set a goal each week to go out or socialise with a friend for a specific length of time. As you ease this with confidence, extend the timings a little more each week.
Drive/cab or walk
For many of us, the biggest fear is to be using public transport in the amidst of this pandemic. Lockdown meant most of us were either driving or walking to the local supermarket whilst doing essential shopping. Some of us are still apprehensive to use public transport especially due to the fact tight spaces and big crowds potentially puts us at risk of contracting covid-19. For those starting off this month with leaving the house and meeting people in various areas, try walking or opting to use the car. If you don’t feel as safe, the car might be a better option as now cab drivers are taking precautions with passengers.
Wearing and carrying protection
Whilst in lockdown, people started taking precautions using masks, gloves and hand gel. Public transport has now made it mandatory for passengers to wear masks, but even if you are not on public transport it is still essential to come prepared. Whether you’re planning for a social gathering or going out to a non-essential place, always bring a protection. As we have been told, some people do not show symptoms of covid-19, so we cannot take risks leaving the house unprepared. If you are socialising with friends keep a safe distance and make sure hands are properly washed before, during and after social interactions.
Socialising after lockdown for many of us won’t be something we can resume and normalise overnight. There needs to be a gradual build up before we gain 100% confidence. We hope that these precautions will help plan out your first few social interactions with friends and members outside of your household.
