Love on the frontline

February 16, 2021

How was your valentine’s?

Love seems to be everywhere – from adverts, reality tv shows and apps on your smartphone – dating, dating, dating – whether you are in the love mood or not, its hard to escape it!

As with other industries where shift patterns will often cover unsociable hours, finding love when working in the security industry may not be so easy… or are we wrong?!

When it comes to working on the frontline, when work patterns may be irregular, dating and keeping our better halves happy might not always be so straightforward…

‘The drunk admirers’

It’s a lively Saturday night. Drinks are flowing, music and atmosphere are lively (we know you have all forgotten what that actually feels like at this stage!) …you know how it goes. Those of you who have worked at the door of a club, pub or bar will be aware as the hours pass by, you’re dealing directly with more and more drunk members of the public. The ladies love you – maybe it’s the authority they like – maybe it’s the beer goggles – who knows! And ladies working on the doors, well if you haven’t had the pleasure of that one – let us tell you, there’s chat up lines for days!

Maybe the doors aren’t such a bad place to be if you’re single…

‘The partner who keeps tabs’

The club is supposed to finish at 3am… but when you walk through the door at 6am, after a loooooong shift the last thing you want to be doing is explaining how you just spent the last 2 hours dealing with an incident and writing up reports and no you haven’t been anywhere else, and no you didn’t get any numbers, and yes you came straight home, and no sorry your right you did stop off somewhere – Tesco, to buy a cheese and onion sandwich….

Sometimes, whatever you say just won’t be the right thing!

‘What are you doing in security?’

Ladies, this one is for you. Ever worked in frontline security? You’ve definitely heard this one!

You’re too pretty, you’re too small, you’re too this, you’re too that, I’ve never seen someone like you working on the doors… you name it, we’ve heard it!

‘The regular shopper’

Those regulars that will try anything to skip the queues … we see you! When it comes to avoiding queues, getting out of the rain or trying to stay longer when the lights go on we have seen every tactic out there. We acquire a lot of best friends working on the doors!

Whatever your circumstance and whatever you may have come across during your time on the doors we can all appreciate a bit of attention – even if we know it’s tactical flirting! It can bring a welcome smile to our faces after a long shift… Happy month of love!
