Happy Friday, we hope you’ve all had a well rested week! The team here at QCS thought it would be handy to provide you with some news and updates on what’s been happening this week in the amidst of COVID-19 and the security industry.
COVID-19 Crime rates
Since the lockdown commenced, police have said there have been more reports on anti-social behaviour taking place across the UK which may be linked to the breaches of lockdown measures. Police reports in the past 4 weeks convey crime in general has fallen by 28%.
COVID-19- Security in supermarkets
Theft and aggressive behaviour from members of the public has prompted food stores to increase security measures. Extra security guards have been employed to monitor CCTV as well as stock distribution and queues outside.
COVID-19 Lockdown extension
Lockdown in the UK has been extended to a further 3 weeks, Dominic Raab has expressed success and positive results with lockdown measures, but evidence shows the virus is still spreading across hospitals and care homes. Another review will be made in the first week of May to assess death rates, enough PPE and conditions at hospitals and care homes.
Security News-ECHO
Due to the pandemic, the Electronic Call Handling Operations (ECHO) initiative has been delayed until July after being reviewed by the National Police Chiefs’ Council. The initiative which was set to implement automated alarm signalling this month has been pushed to later this year when the Covid-19 pandemic is at least stabilised.
We know a lot has changed for the security industry during this pandemic, but we thought these updates were important to focus on this week especially for those who are still working in establishments. As always, stay safe and if it is necessary to go out please protect yourself with PPE. We hope you have a safe and well-rested weekend!
